Regional and Remote Music Summit to Return for Second Year

The Regional & Remote Music Summit is confirmed to return in 2025.
Now in its second year, the MusicNSW-hosted event will again focus on key industry figures and artists based in regional and remote locations and the future of the local music industry, as well as address challenges and opportunities.
The Summit will take place in Byron Bay from July 23-25th and feature in-depth discussions, workshops and showcases under the theme of ‘Strengthening Regional Music Communities.’
MusicNSW Managing Director Joe Muller said the summit will provide an opportunity to acknowledge challenges facing regional communities, including recent extreme weather events and ongoing recovery efforts, and a platform for the role the music industry can play.
“In what has historically been the Splendour week, the Regional & Remote Music Summit, will invite artists and industry professionals from across Australia to Byron Bay to share, listen, connect and collaborate,” Muller said.
“This is an opportunity to centre regional and remote artist and industry voices and ensure that music remains a driving force for connection, renewal, and the long-term sustainability of our communities.”
In an opinion piece published on The Music Network ahead of the inaugural Regional & Remote Music Summit last year, Sosefina Fuamoli stressed the importance of such an event.
“Our creative landscape in Australia is changing more in recent years as a result of recent history spent losing revenue, venues, and sustainable pathways where they were once guaranteed,” she wrote.
“Pouring consideration and effort into uplifting and sustaining the regional and remote live music industries, bridging skill gaps and developing artists in a way that supports their connection to culture, artistic vision and ambitions – frankly, it has never been more important.”
Fuamoli continued: “Artists and industry across our vast remote and regional areas aren’t looking for the quick fix of success; but what they do need, is to be taken as seriously as their major capital cousins.”
