Nova’s Red Room returns to Sydney with Miguel

US singer-songwriter Miguel will perform at Nova’s Red Room in Sydney as part of his July tour down under.

The Grammy-winning artist will also perform at Splendour In The Grass, with these performances marking his first shows in Australia since 2014.

He’ll take to the stage in Sydney on Tuesday, July 17 in a yet-to-be-disclosed venue, to perform songs from his fourth album War & Leisure, including his huge hit with Kygo ‘Remind Me To Forget’.


SCA’s new digital station ‘Urban Hits’

SCA has turned its RnB Fridays concept into a full-time station, today announcing the launch of new digital station Urban Hits.

The new station will broadcast 24-hours a day into Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth – playing the hottest hip hop and RnB tunes.

According to SCA, Urban Hits will feature current hits by artists including Kanye WestPost MaloneCardi BDrake and The Weekend, as well as new releases by Beyonce and Jay-Z, and Nicki Minaj.

The station streams from the Hit Network app and from the Hit Network official website.


The Top 10 EPs in metro FM radio right now

Radio Today this week unveiled its top executive producers in metro FM radio.

The list of nominees for public vote included submissions by representatives of the three major FM networks; Southern Cross Austereo, NOVA Entertainment and Australian Radio Network.

The final list was compiled with the input of the results of the poll, as well as consultation with industry figures, and finally taking into account the competitiveness of each station’s format and survey success in the first three books of this year.

The list was topped by Kyle and Jackie O’s Bruno Bouchet. Check out the full list here.


Regional radio to receive cadet funding grants

A new Federal Government program will allow regional commercial radio stations to apply for funding to assist with hiring journalism cadets.

The program will support 200 cadetships over two years, with 100 available in the first round, and will which will provide a wage subsidy or grant of up to $40,000 per approved journalism cadet.

The program aims to help boost employment opportunities in regional media, to help regional outlets better compete with global news outlets.

Applications open July 27.


Hit105 and Triple M Brisbane announce new headquarters

Southern Cross Austereo has announced a relocation of  Hit105 and Triple M Brisbane, set to take place 12 months from now.

The wheels are already in motion on a plan to move SCA’s operations from North Quay to The Barracks, in what the parent company is calling “one of the biggest and most technical relocations in radio history in Australia.”

In June of next year, Hit105 and Triple M will depart their longtime base and relocate to Level 4 at The Barracks in a 10-year lease deal with options.

There’ll be no break in transmission, with some 125 staff transitioning to what will be two new fully operational radio stations.
