Post Malone on the cusp of ARIA Chart history

What a fortnight it’s shaping up to be for hip hop music in Australia. With J. Cole’s #1 debut KOD sitting proudly at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart, Cole could hand the baton to Post Malone this week whose latest album bentleys & beerbongs is smashing records left, right and centre.

It will be a very different run for Post this time around. With ‘rockstar’ ft. 21 Savage, ‘Psycho’ ft. Ty Dolla $ign and ‘Candy Paint’ already sitting in the Singles Chart Top 50, nearly three-quarters of the 18-track album could be in the bracket come Saturday afternoon.

The chart could see up to 10 new Post singles debuting this week, with mid-week data hinting at newest radio single ‘Better Now’ to be leading the pack. The next three highest debuts include ‘Paranoid’ (Top 10), ‘Ball For Me’ ft. Nicki Minaj (Top 15) and ‘Spoil My Night’ ft. Swae Lee (Top 20).

This has only ever happened once before. Sheeran’s now Diamond certified album Divide offered up 13 Top 50 debuts in March 2017, with three landing in the Top 10 (‘Dive’, ‘Perfect’ and ‘Galway Girl’).

2016 album Stoney first broke the chart at #49 in its debut week, re-entering a couple of times, before storming its way up to #5. With no frames left to climb if the new albums goes straight to #1, Post can only go one way, and will attempt to ward off sales resurgences from Cole, Ed Sheeran and even The Greatest Showman, which is likely to pick up sales with the recent Australian DVD release.
