P!nk’s Australia Tour Is a Record-Breaker
With the finishing line in sight, P!nk’s Summer Carnival tour of these parts is already a winner – several times over.
P!nk’s latest trek sets multiple records, according to Live Nation Australia, which is producing the trans-Tasman run.
By the time the tour wraps with a show this Saturday, March 23 at Townsville’s Country Bank Stadium, the Philadelphia pop superstar will have played 20 stadium shows – the ever most performed by any artist in Australia & New Zealand on a single tour.
Also, notes LN, nearly one million people will have passed through the turnstiles to see the hits-filled production, a box-office juggernaut that places P!nk (real name: Alecia Moore) in the top three all-time, alongside historic tours by Ed Sheeran and Dire Straits.
Summer Carnival ticket sales are by far the biggest for any female headliner to have toured here, and “almost the highest ever tour sales in this market,” reads a statement from LN.
Along the way, P!nk smashed the attendance records at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium and at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium, and she became the first female artist to headline at Eden Park, NZ’s national stadium – a concert staged on International Women’s Day.
Her two Auckland dates destroyed the venue attendance record, LN reports.
Live Nation Australasia chairman Michael Coppel, P!nk’s manager Roger Davies, and reps from the concert promoter and Sony Music were on hand to present the artist with a special award on Sunday (March 17) to commemorate her record-setting feats.
“There is a palpable mutual love affair between the Australasian audience that love seeing her perform live, and an artist who clearly loves being here,” comments Coppel in a statement.
“Congratulations, Alecia, on yet another stunning record-breaking tour and on an incredible career, with even greater success surely to come.”
Coppel has worked with P!nk on more than 200 shows, including the epic, record-setting Funhouse tour of 2009, when Coppel led the concert promoter Michael Coppel Presents (now part of LN).
Another record-smashing leading lady, Tones And I (real name: Toni Watson), has opened for P!nk on tour.
Tones recently became the first female artist, and first from outside of the U.K. or North America, to rack-up more than three billion Spotify streams for one song, with “Dance Monkey.”
