Perfect Pitch signs WA’s Grace Barbé to global deal

Perfect Pitch Publishing signed a global publishing deal with Grace Barbé and Jamie Searle the songwriter duo behind WA’s award-winning reggae, Afrobeat and psychedelic band Grace Barbé.

Singer and bassist Grace Barbé hails from the Indian Ocean islands of the Seychelles, where a colourful history of slavery, pirates, coups d’état and coconuts have produced a unique Kreol rhythm, language and culture which the band wants to popularise.

Searle is the band’s guitarist, music director and producer.

The outfit includes Grace’s younger sister Joelle Barbé (drums).

Barbé and Jamie Searle emerged in 2009 with the release of  Barbé’s debut album Kreol Daughter.

They followed up with festival appearances in India, East Africa (Sauti za Busara, Zanzibar) and the Indian Ocean (Sakifo Festival, La Reunion) as well as at Womadelaide, WOMAD New Zealand, Byron Bay Bluesfest and Woodford Folk.

The band has won Western Australia’s WAM award for Best World Act nine times.

Grace Barbé & Clive Hodson’s Perfect Pitch celebrate the signing at Fremantle’s Mojo Bar on Saturday, May 4, with an album out in July for launch at Freo Social in Fremantle.
