Official voting opens for triple j’s Hottest 100

Voting for this year’s triple j Hottest 100 has officially opened. The winner of 2016’s competition will join the likes of The Rubens (2015), Chet Faker (2014) and Vance Joy (2013) who have won the prize in previous years.

Once again, voters will go in the running to win triple j’s Golden Ticket which grants you and a friend entry into every triple j supported music event in 2017. This includes Laneway, Splendour, Groovin The Moo, Falls Festival, Porter Robinson, Diplo, Illy, Asta and more.

For another year running, triple j is teaming up with AIME (Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience), the mentoring program based in Sydney that supports Indigenous kids through high school and into university, training and employment. Last year, Hottest 100 listeners raised over $100,000 for the charity, impacting over 6000 kids.

The projected goal for this year’s donations is to help 10,000 indigenous children by 2018. Listeners can also support the cause by wearing an exclusive AIME x triple j 2016 Hottest 100 T-shirt. The shirt was designed by 16-year-old Indigenous artist Kaylem Macdonald, an AIME mentee from the Kamilaroi / Gamilaroi nation.

AIME founder and CEO, Jack Manning Bancroft, spoke highly of the opportunity that a partnership of this kind presents for the charity: “Rarely do you get a chance in your life to make something big happen, now with triple j and the generosity of their listeners, we have that chance,” he said.

“Through the Hottest 100 we’ve already been able to support an extra 1500 students, and with your help we can give every kid in Australia that chance. We are on the crest of a wave changing the whole country, helping a generation of Indigenous kids rise up. Let’s get it done.”

Ollie Wards, triple j Content Director, adds: “Last year, we were so stoked with triple j listeners raising a big six figure sum to support Indigenous students that we had to do it again!

“The Hottest 100 is something millions of Australians engage with every year, so through our AIME partnership we’re looking forward to not only raising much needed funds, but also to continue building a meaningful connection with Indigenous Australia.”

Donations can be made after casting your vote, or simply donate to AIME here.
