Archie Roach, Tina Arena & Tarantino’s music supervisor Mary Ramos leads first BIGSOUND speaker announcement

The first of the speaker lineup for BIGSOUND 2017 was announced this morning, with a stack of industry names from overseas and locally.

In a coup for the conference, there will be keynotes from icons Archie Roach and Tina Arena, with programmer Maggie Collins saying she’s thrilled to have “two Australian icons who have contributed so much to our cultural identity over the past few decades” addressing this year’s attendees.

Possibly the name that willramp up anticipation levels the most is music supervisor Mary Ramos, who’s worked on some of the most iconic film soundtracks ever through her long-standing creative partnership with Quentin Tarantino, fromPulp Fiction toThe Hateful 8.

Alison Wenham from Worldwide Independent Network (WIN) will also deliver a mini-keynote “state of the union” on independent music around the world.

International attendees will include Jane Abernathy (4AD), Peter Berard (Domino), Andrew Jervis (Bandcamp), Stuart Meyer (Sub Pop), Paul Adams (Roc Nation), and Adel Hattem (D Music Marketing).

Some of the international delegates will join the judging panel for the huge Levi’s Music Prize pool of $100,000 in development funds – for which the deadline for entries has just been extended to May 22. (Apply here if you’re keen.)

As well as the Visual Arts Showcase, there will also be an increased focus on technology and music, with the introduction of the Music Tech Showcase, which will allow innovators and startups focused on musical experiences and engagement to mingle with key industry figures and show off their work.
