Two-time Grammy winner Laufey has signed with Interscope Records and Verve Records, marking a major label move after six years as an independent artist.

The Icelandic-Chinese singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist joins the Universal Music Group label following a period that has seen her build a substantial global audience independently, with more than seven billion combined streams across three studio albums.

The deal follows another Grammy win earlier this year, with Laufey taking home Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for her 2025 record A Matter of Time. It marked her second win in the category after Bewitched claimed the award in 2024.

Laufey is now working on new music, though details of her first release under the new deal are yet to be announced.

The signing comes shortly after the conclusion of her 70-date A Matter of Time global arena tour, which wrapped in Mexico City last weekend in front of a sold-out crowd of more than 17,000.

The 27-year-old has steadily expanded her profile since releasing her debut EP, Typical of Me, in 2021. Her debut album, Everything I Know About Love, followed in 2022, before Bewitched arrived the following year and became the biggest jazz album debut in Spotify history. A Matter of Time, was released in 2025 and later received a deluxe edition.

Alongside her streaming success, Laufey has sold out venues including the Hollywood Bowl, Radio City Music Hall, Madison Square Garden, Crypto.com Arena and London's Royal Albert Hall. She has also performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra and China Philharmonic Orchestra, and collaborated with artists including Barbra Streisand, Norah Jones, Beabadoobee and Role Model.

Her growing commercial footprint has extended beyond recorded music. Laufey was named among TIME's Women of the Year in 2025, while her children's book, Mei Mei The Bunny, became a New York Times bestseller. She was also awarded Iceland's Order of the Falcon by the country's president.

In August, Laufey staged the fourth edition of “A Very Laufey Day”, with events held across 75 cities in more than 25 countries. Proceeds from associated brand collaborations and merchandise went to The Laufey Foundation, which supports access to music education and resources for young musicians.

The deal brings Laufey into Interscope Geffen A&M, headed by chairman and CEO John Janick, while also placing her on the roster of jazz-focused Verve Records, whose current artists include Jon Batiste, Samara Joy, Arooj Aftab and Diana Krall.
