I Killed The Prom Queen held in KL over visa

Veteran Adelaide/Melbourne metalcore outfit I Killed The Prom Queen’s first South East Asian tour ended in total disarray after they were locked up in a Malaysian immigration detention centre over a visa row.

The band had played Hong Kong (November 10), Bangkok (11), Singapore (12) and Kuching (13) without any incident.

But last Saturday (14) after a show at KL Venue in Kuala Lumpur, immigration authorities took them in citing incorrect paperwork by the promoter.

Guitarist Jona Weinhofen tweeted, “Apparently we’re going to be detained for 4 – 14 days” but added the band were doing well.

“At least we have food and water and we are in good health. Things could definitely be worse and our situation pales to other recent events,” he said.

He also commented, “Weirdest part is some of the immigration officers asked us to autograph stuff & one is wearing a prom queen shirt. Still locking us up tho.”

The final Asian date, at the Rock in Solo Festival in Solo, Indonesia, yesterday, obviously had to be scrapped.

A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesperson said it was providing consular assistance to the band, “including maintaining contact with their families in Australia.”
