Green Music Australia CEO Berish Bilander to Step Down in 2027
Bilander will step down in early 2027 after a decade with the organisation and seven years as CEO.

Green Music Australia (GMA) has announced that CEO Berish Bilander will step down in early 2027, after a decade with the organisation and seven years as CEO.
Bilander joined GMA in 2016 and helped build it into a national organisation working across music, sustainability, and climate advocacy.
As CEO, he led the Australian chapter of NO MUSIC ON A DEAD PLANET, which brought Australian artists into climate advocacy and helped make climate and the environment an election issue.
He also launched Sound Country, GMA's leadership program that gives musicians tools and support to make touring, recording and releasing more sustainable.
Under his leadership, GMA expanded its sustainability programs, which help venues, festivals and music businesses measure and reduce their environmental impact. He built relationships between the music and environmental movements, connecting artists, venues, festivals, industry workers and fans. He also took the #BYOBottle campaign global, working with Jack Johnson's team to cut single-use plastic waste at festivals and shows worldwide.
GMA Board Chair Joe Muller said Bilander leaves the organisation with a strong foundation for its next chapter.
“Over the past decade, including seven years as CEO, Berish has led Green Music Australia with enormous care, creativity and determination, and helped establish GMA as a leading voice in Australian music on climate and the environment.

Reporting from inside the Australian music business since '94.
Muller added: “On behalf of the Board, team and wider GMA community, we thank Berish for his extraordinary contribution and wish him and his family all the very best for what comes next. He will be missed.”
Bilander said: "It has been an enormous privilege to spend the past decade working with the music community and environment movement to build GMA. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together, from growing our practical sustainability work to galvanising artists and music fans around climate action.
“GMA is in a strong position, with a great team, ambitious programs and a clear opportunity to keep building the role music can play in creating a safer and more sustainable future. I’m looking forward to supporting a smooth transition and seeing where the organisation goes next."
GMA is now recruiting a new CEO. The role is open to candidates across Australia, with a preference for applicants based in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. Click here for more details.
