Ed Sheeran sells over 1 million tickets in UK, takes battle to scalpers
Ed Sheeran has sold over 1 million tickets for his 2018 UK stadium tour – leading promoters Kilimanjiro Live, DHP Family and AEG Presents to warn against secondary markets.
Through Team Sheeran and the promoters working closely together – and threatening scalpers with cancellations – 90% of tickets have been delivered to genuine fans at face value.
Up to 10,000 tickets bought illegally by known scalpers have been cancelled so far, beingput back on sale through Sheeran’s approved ticket agency, Twickets.
Promoters have also used the National Trading Standards Cyber Crime team to monitor for multiple sales transactions – a process that will continue until the tour starts in May.
Regardless of the return of tickets to authentic buyers, Sheeran continues to add datesto meet demand.
He is now doing 18 shows between May 9 andJune 24.
He’s broken records in Ireland (315,000 tickets sold on the first day), Wales and Scotland for the most stadium shows to take place in each country on the same tour run.
Ticketmaster rushed out a statement: “Ticketmaster experienced its busiest day ever today. Ed Sheeran has been a phenomenal success, already breaking all our previous records.”
