Amy Shark has taken out the top spot on the Australian Albums chart this week with her new record, Soft Pop.
The Gold Coast-born songwriter not only topped the local list, but was only pipped from No. 1 on the main chart by global heavyweight Charli xcx with her eighth studio record, Music, Fashion, Film, to debut at No. 2
Soft Pop also came in at No. 4 on the Vinyls chart.
“Thank you all so much,” Shark said in a social media post.
Appearing on the Rolling Stone Uncut podcast earlier this month, Shark said she believes Soft Pop is her strongest album yet.
“No one had even heard the album, and I’m like, this is the best album I’ve ever written. I know that," she said.

"And I’ve hit a stage where I know how bad it can be to rely on outcomes, so I’ve just let go of it, and I know that I love this record, I’ve loved promoting it, I love the look of it, I love everything about it, and that’s kind of all I needed,” she says. “The rest is a bonus.”
Other new entries landing in the top 40 of the Albums chart this week include The Strokes' Reality Awaits (No. 10), Budjerah's debut effort, Gentleman (No. 14 and No. 2 on the Australian Albums list), Tyla's A*Pop (No. 28), Shania Twain's Little Miss Twain (No. 30) and Waterparks' Jinx (No. 39).
On the Singles chart, Ella Langley's “Choosin' Texas” remains atop the list for an eighth consecutive week.
