While it is certain that David Bowie’s Blackstar will tonight (Australian time) topple Adele’s 25 on the UK charts after seven consecutive weeks, she has still set a new chart achievement.

The Official Charts Company announced that she has overtaken Madonna for the most weeks at #1 by a female artist on the Official Album Chart.

Over three albums, Adele racked up 31 weeks at the top spot. Madonna had 30 weeks with 12 albums.

Each Adele album has debuted at #1. Her first, 19, stayed one week at the summit in February 2008. However 21 hung in there for an astounding 23 weeks.

Madonna’s longest UK stay at #1 was for nine weeks with her 1990 hits set The Immaculate Collection.

Adele and Madonna lead over Barbra Streisand at third spot (19 weeks in total), Celine Dion (18 weeks) and Dido rounding off the top 5 (17 weeks).
