BMG acquired the legendary Buena Vista Social Club’s UK-based label World Circuit which specialises in music from Cuba and West Africa.

The catalogue includes recordings by Ry Cooder, Ali Farka Touré, Mbongwana Star and Orchestra Baobab, although the Buena Vista Social Club album remains its biggest seller, with 6 million sales globally.

It went platinum in Australia where it peaked at #6.

BMG plans to reissue the catalogue and find new audiences for it via streaming services.


The Sydney office of Downtown Music Publishing has signed its third act since it opened earlier this year.

After Stella Donnelly and The Teskey Brothers, Downtown has signed John Butler to a multi-territory administration deal.

“I’m stoked to start this new era with Downtown Music Publishing. I’m really looking forward to working with all the talented team and sharing my new album Home as far and wide as possible,” said Butler on the signing.

“A definition of “luck” I once heard from a colleague goes something like this: luck is when preparedness meets opportunity — so good luck to us all!”


123 Agency added Newcastle punk-inspired band Split Feed to the roster. They’ve just dropped a new single Homesick and hit the road along the in November following a string of sold-out East Coast shows and the opening set at this year’s revered Groovin’ The Moo.


Argentinean football player and FC Barcelona star Leo Messi, Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group and PopArt Music team up to create a new show to be launched in 2019, in association with Sony Music.

“It feels both crazy and incredible that Cirque du Soleil will create a show based on my life, my passion, my sport”, expressed Leo Messi.

“Cirque du Soleil is a family favourite of ours. I have no doubt this show will amaze people as their shows always do.”


Melbourne six-piece outfit Way Dynamic joined the Our Golden Friend family.

Debut single Losing Touch introduces the songwriting skills of Ballarat-born Melbourne based 22-year-old multi-instrumentalist Dylan Young.

He’s played in an assortment of bands including Totally Mild, Emma Russack, Hollow Everdaze, Precious Earth and Great Outdoors.
