Musitec returns Connected Music City Challenge
Musitec, the SA Government’s music-focussed industry development cluster, has returned its Connected Music City Challenge (CMCC).
Launching on August 31 at St Paul’s Creative Centre, the CMCC is part of TechJam, Musitec’s initiative for developers and tech lovers.
CMCC launched in 2015 as a collaboration between Musitec, the Music Development Office, IBM, Adelaide City Council, Adelaide Fringe and Flinders NVI.
This year’s innovation challenge will see entrants engage in a ’speed date’ style networking process, encouraging teams to form, and enabling them to find the individuals they require to build their teams. The music-related theme for the challenge won’t be announced until its launch at 5:30pm on August 31.
The CMCC is open to any individual or team eager to createunique city experiences and to develop and commercialise their ideas.
Last year’s joint major prize-winners were Codefish Studio andConor Barkway. Barkway’sproject Munitycreated a digital medium where“local live music lovers can connect and interact with each other after a shared interest in particular, live music scenes.”
Barkway took home: access to IBM’s Bluemix and SoftLayer platforms to a collective value of $48,000; a Flinders NVI Venture Dorm Scholarship; a hot-desk at St Paul’s Creative Centre, $1000 cash courtesy of VAF Research, access to the Adelaide City Councils’ Concierge program via the Smart City Studio, and business mentoring services from Musitec.
“Being involved in the Connected Music City Challenge was an amazing opportunity to build meaningful networks, and surround myself with other people passionate about music,” said Barkway. “After my concept, Munity, was fortunate enough to be selected as a major prize-winner, I’ve received industry support, mentorship, and have been granted the technological resources to create a prototype with the IBM Bluemix platform.”
David Grice, Musitec’s Managing Director said in a statement, “As technology rapidly develops, the opportunity for innovation in music business is abundant. Collaboration is pivotal in driving effective innovation, so CMCC was designed to facilitate collaboration and assist in the commercialisation process.
“This year, we’ve partnered with AIE to deliver a Prototyping Workshop that will provide the teams with the necessary tools over a weekend to create prototypes to demonstrate at the pitch event.”
Registrations to attend the launch are now open and can be made by visiting www.musitec.co or emailing [email protected](registration is essential).
