NEW BREAKFAST TEAM FOR SEA FM

Southern Cross Austereo announced a new breakfast lineup at 90.9 SEA FM, with former Bachelor contestant Heather Maltman, radio veteran Dan Anstey (currently anchor at FOX Melbourne’s breakfast show) and former NRL two-time premiership winner Ben Hannant. Maltman, also an actor and TV presenter, says of her return to the Gold Coast, “The Oasis Centre is my hood, I used to work at the Fresh n Fast Juice Bar!”

The trio replace long-time brekkie announcers Paul Gale and Charli Robinson.

In the latest Queensland ratings, Hot Tomato topped the breakfast slot with Flan & Emily Jade, while Gold FM’s Bridge & Spida were second.

UNIVERSAL’S TED MAY TO LEAD eONE UK OPS

Universal Music executive Ted May takes over the newly created role of Director of UK Music for Entertainment One (eOne). He will oversee the UK operations for the company, which globally acquires, produces and distributes television, family, film and music content rights.

May’s 20-year career includes running the cult label The Beats where he signed Professor Green and Example, and managed The Streets who had two UK chart-toppers and sold 4 million worldwide. Most recently he was Universal Music’s Senior International Marketing Manager, working on international marketing campaigns for The Lumineers, The Chemical Brothers, Jack Garratt, Jessie Ware and The Vamps amongst others.

SONY MUSIC PROMOTES ANDRE STAPLETON

Sony Music Entertainment has promoted Andre Stapleton to the global role of SVP of Digital Partner Development. Based in New York, he “will work on initiatives with our largest digital partners to maximise SME’s revenue and growth on a worldwide basis. He also will lead the Partner Development team, which is staffed across London, Los Angeles and New York.

CALDWELL EXPANDS ROLE

The Australian Radio Network (ARN) has extended the role of resident entertainment reporter John Caldwell across KIIS FM’s national network. Caldwell has been reporter for KIIS 1065’s The Kyle & Jackie O Show in Sydney and KIIS 101.1’s breakfast show, Matt & Meshel, in Melbourne.

He now also files reports for Adelaide’s Mix 102.3, Brisbane’s 97.3FM and Perth’s 96FM.

ABC CANBERRA ANNOUNCES 2017 LINEUP

ABC Canberra’s 2017 radio lineup includes Dan Bourchier who joins the broadcaster from January 16 to host Breakfast on 666 as well as presenting the evening TV news. Laura Tchilinguirian will present Afternoons. Susan Macdonald joins as morning radio news presenter and Nightlife presenter Friday to Sunday.

The full lineup includes Sabra Lane (AM), Genevieve Jacobs (Mornings), Richard Fidler with Conversations (11 am to noon), Eleanor Hall and The World Today (noon to 1 pm), Adam Shirley (Drive), Mark Colvin (PM), Chris Bath (Evenings Monday to Thursday), Christine Anu (evenings, Friday), Philip Clark and Nightlife (Monday-Thursday), Trevor Chappell and Overnights (Monday-Thursday), Rod Quinn with Overnights (Friday-Sunday), Greg Bayliss (Saturday Breakfast) and Lish Fejer (Sunday Brunch).

EMOTIVE MAKES CHANGES

Simon Joyce’s social video content marketing agency based Emotive promoted Jamie Crick to the newly created role of Social Media Director. Joyce explains, “Everything we do is through the lens of audience’s passions and their behaviour in social media. It’s critical that we have an experienced leader that is plugged into social video culture.”

John Principe has joined as Social Strategy Manager from DT and Slingshot.

ROY & HG RETURN TO TRIPLE M IN 2017

After sneaking back onto the airwaves during the Rio Olympics, Roy Slaven & HG Nelson return permanently to Triple M in 2017. They’ll host a national Saturday morning show called The Sporting Probe With Roy & HG, where they will provide their take on significant sporting events around Australia, kicking off with the Australian Open tennis tournament in January.

This means the end of the Dead Set Legends in the Saturday morning slot after 19 years with Ray Warren, Dan Ginane and Richard Freedman. Rumours are that the 6 pm weekday The Rush Hour Show will be rebranded as Dead Set Legends.

JT HEADS TO NEWCASTLE

After seven years at 929 Tamworth Music as Music Director, “JT” (Paul Rands) is joining the team at NEW FM Newcastle. 929’s new Music Director Tim Green began this week.

NIC MANIKIS QUITS FESTIVAL AFTER 40 YEARS

Nic Manikis, the Canberra pubic servant who founded the National Multicultural Festival in 1997, has retired after 40 years of pubic service (particularly to the indigenous and senior communities) during which he helped turn Canberra from a white outpost to something multicultural. The festival has grown from a tiny event to this year drawing 280,000 attendees with 4500 volunteers, 463 stalls and nine stages.

DAVE MATTHEWS HIT SUNSHINE COAST

Dave Matthews has joined the team at Hot 91 Sunshine Coast. He was on air anchor for the Hit105 Brisbane breakfast show with Stav, Abby & Osher.

FINDLAY AND TEAM MAKE MOVE

Daniel Findlay, Pacific Magazine’s Editor-In-Chief of the youth portfolio, and seven other staffers move to Nextmedia which bought out K-Zone and Total Girl.

HOWSON STEPS DOWN FROM TIMESLOT

Reports are that former ABC Radio breakfast radio king Spencer Howson is stepping down from the shift due to his dissatisfaction with 3.20am wake-ups. However he will remain with the ABC.

CREACY HEADS ROCKET FUEL ANZ

Marketing platform provider Rocket Fuel now has Mailee Creacy as Country Manager ANZ overlooking activities in both countries. She began working at the company six yeats ago in New York, before moving to Sydney in September to be Sales Director for NSW and Qld.

BROADSHEET GETS MELBOURNE EDITOR

Digital publisher Broadsheet Media appointed Katya Wachtel as new Melbourne editor. She’s been a contributor for eight years, working between Melbourne and New York covering cultural and financial issues.
