Music Victoria Awards Unveil 2022 Hall of Fame Inductees
With one week to go until the 2022 ceremony, Music Victoria have revealed this year’s inductees into The Music Victoria Hall of Fame.
Deborah Conway AM, a significant contributor to the state’s music industry for over four decades, will be inducted by iconic singer-songwriter Paul Kelly. With nine ARIA Awards nominations, including two wins, Conway has forged her own path as a performer throughout her career.
Helen Marcou AM and Ian ‘Quincy’ McLean AM, founders of Bakehouse Studios, will also be inducted. Bakehouse is described as “the beating heart of the contemporary music sector and an internationally renowned oasis of creativity and artistic practice in Inner Melbourne.”
Marcou and McLean will be inducted into the Hall of Fame by Gareth Liddiard and Fiona Kitchen from acclaimed local bands The Drones and Tropical Fuck Storm.
“When we signed the lease on 1 Bakehouse Lane in 1991, we couldn’t have imagined that over the next three decades, Bakehouse would become a home and a connection to generations of artists,” Marcou and McLean said.
“Everywhere we go, we meet someone with a heartwarming ‘Baker’ story. We are humbled to work alongside the wealth of Victoria’s brilliant musical minds, as they interpret, elevate and define our lives in song. This induction writes our names next to giants from our community and although it’s an overwhelming honour, this recognition helps keep our flame burning.”
Music Victoria have also announced that celebrated Victorian artist Xani Kolac will be honoured with the award for Best Musician at the Music Victoria Awards next week.
Since breaking out with indie outfit The Twoks, Kolac has been a genre-hopping trailblazer ever since, excelling in pop, jazz, electronic and chamber music.
The 2022 Music Victoria Awards will take place on Tuesday, December 13th at The Edge, Fed Square.
