Mushroom Music Publishing announces leadership changes

Mushroom Music Publishing this morning announced a change in leadership.

Managing director of 32 years Ian James – one of the Mushroom Group’s longest standing employees – will take on a senior consultant position, with current head of A&R, Linda Bosidis, stepping up to take his place as MD, starting from January 2019.

Michael Gudinski, Mushroom Group’s founder and chairman, said: “Ian has made such an incredible contribution to not only Mushroom Music but the music industry as a whole.

“Together we have put Mushroom Music on the world map. He is one of the true characters of the industry and we look forward to drawing upon his great knowledge, experience and contacts in the years to come.”

During his time with the company, James helped to grow MMP from a staff of three employees into one of the country’s most successful independent publishing companies.

His catalogue spans Chrysalis, Kobalt, BMG, Reservoir, Big Deal and Downtown and includes signing artists such as the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the White Stripes for publishing in Australia and New Zealand.

In his new role, James will be consulted by MMP on strategy and will also continue to represent the company on the boards of APRA AMCOS, the International Confederation of Music Publishers and the Independent Music Publishers Forum.

“When I started with Mushroom Music in 1986 it was a fantastic environment,” said James.

“Michael was a unique character then and always will be. He has been my mentor, my professor. It’s been an honour to work with the extended Mushroom family and Linda has been a valued member since she started. She will be great. I’m pleased to continue this adventure in a new role.”

From January 1 next year, Linda Bosidis – who has been with MMP for the last 20 years – will be welcomed as the new managing director.

Linda has signed the likes of Violent Soho, Julia Jacklin, Gordi, Jack River, Chet Faker, The Temper Trap and more, as well as signed successful joint ventures with UNFD and Ivy League.

Gudinski continued: “Linda’s success in A&R speaks for itself, but it’s her integrity and ability to get the best out of our staff and writers that will make her a great Mushroom leader.

“Linda has the respect, ideas and drive to truly modernise Mushroom Music and we look forward to her taking the company, that she has been a part of for twenty years, to even greater heights.”

Says Bosidis of the appointment: “As MD, my focus will be to continue the dedication to our incredible songwriters who are first and foremost the priority, they are and always have been the heart and soul of Mushroom Music.

“I want to say a big thank you to Michael and Matt for the opportunity and to Ian James who has always shared his extensive knowledge and encouraged individual growth.”
