MPEG, VMDO Launch Jetsetting ‘Fast Track’ Fellowship

MPEG, VMDO Launch Jetsetting ‘Fast Track’ Fellowship

One lucky (and highly skilled) Victoria-based music producer or engineer will spread their wings for a “life changing” UK opportunity, thanks to new fellowship provided by MPEG and VMDO.

Launching today, May 7th, the Fast Track Fellowship offers a Victorian based producer, producer/writer, mix engineer or recording engineer a pathway to the UK for up to eight weeks this July and August.

During that time, the fellow will have access to mentors, studios and industry events.

The Fellowship, reads a joint statement, is a vital skills development passport that expands pathways to build global networks, international experience and professional opportunities.

The chosen studio professional will have their airfares and accommodation paid for, and receive a stipend for the duration.

Applications are now open for the 2025 Fellowship, which will be reviewed and selected by an independent industry-based advisory panel.

Victoria isn’t just the home of sport and culture in these parts. The inaugural Music Producer and Engineers’ Guild of Australia (MPEG) 2023 survey found that almost 45% of music producers and engineers are based in the state.

The survey also revealed that 19% of those producers and engineers have plans to work abroad, and almost 35% of respondents have aspirations of an international career – but don’t know how to do it.

Led by chair Anna Laverty, MPEG, the Music Producer and Engineers’ Guild, produces the annual MPEG Awards, the most recent edition for which was presented February 26th in Sydney. The Guild was launched in 2022 to provide a voice for its members, and to represent their commercial interests and community through advocacy and engagement. Today, it’s guided by the likes of executive director Kurt Luthy, and board members Xylo Aria and Laverty.

The launch of the 2025 Fellowship follows the publication last week of the Victorian Music Development Office’s research commission, Skills & Roles – Support workers in Victorian music industries, presented at its inaugural Music Data and Insights Summit.

The Victorian Government-funded VDMO initiative is delivered by Music Victoria and led by general manager Kirsty Rivers, the Hall of Fame inductee at the 2023 Music Victoria Awards.
