Luude Lands Second U.K. Top 40 Hit With ‘Big City Life’

Luude Lands Second U.K. Top 40 Hit With ‘Big City Life’

It’s official: Luude is no one-hit wonder.

The Australian DJ and producer scores his second U.K. Top 40 hit with “Big City Life” (via Warner Records), his update on Mattafix’s 2005 classic.

The track lifts 41-37 in its fifth week on the Official U.K. Singles Chart, and is the followup to his drum ‘n’ bass reworking of Men At Work’s “Down Under” (Sweat It Out) which flew all the way to No. 5 earlier this year.

“Big City Life” has fresh legs. Based on midweek data published overnight, it’s on track for a No. 27 finish when the chart is published late Friday (Aug. 5).

“Big City Life,” credited to Luude and Mattafix, enjoys a bump with a cinematic music video directed by Three Shades Creative (Yussef Dayes, Josh Barry, Bastille) and has breezed past 14 million streams on Spotify.

With radio tastemakers’ doors flung open, Luude (real name Christian Benson) saw his latest single land BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record, and earn triple j First Play and addition.

The original version of “Big City Life” was “literally one of my favourite tunes as a kid,” explains Luude, “so it’s so surreal to actually be able to put this new remix version out with Mattafix actually on the tune.”

The Aussie artist worked on the production side with Chase & Status and Goddard on the release.

He’s currently winding his way across clubs and summer festivals in the U.K. and Europe with performances at Electric Love, Tomorrowland, Parookaville, Creamfields, Reading and Leeds Festivals, Bass Paradise and more.

Prior to catching the DnB bug, Luude accumulated more than 30 million streams across a string of tunes, including “Right Now,” “Sink or Swim,” and “Paradise,” and he’s one half of electronic duo Choomba, which last year signed with EMI.

“Down Under” is by some distance his biggest hit, with over 150 million streams across platforms, and more than 150,000 TikTok videos.

Luude remains with Sweat It Out for the “Big City Life” release across Australia and New Zealand.
