Lucy Parle signs recording deal with Sydney boutique label Double Drummer

17-year-old Central Coast singer-songwriter Lucy Parle has cemented her status as one to be watched after signing with Sydney-based boutique label Double Drummer.

News of Parle’s signing arrives off the back of her taking out first place in the Teen category of the International Songwriters Competition (ISC) for her upcoming single, ‘Back Up’.

With a confessional style that draws from the likes of Taylor Swift, Vance Joy and Amy Shark, Parle’s songwriting has previously seen her win in the Youth category of the Australian Songwriters Association Awards, as well as receiving a nomination for the ASA Songwriter of the Year Award.

Double Drummer’s founder Edward Prescott expressed his excitement at the prospect of her signing with the label, which is also home to local acts like Cousin Tony’s Brand New Firebird, Greta Stanley and Dominic Breen.

“Lucy has such a rich, natural melodic sensibility as a songwriter; plus she’s got a brilliant work ethic and is highly prolific,” Prescott said.

“She also has a really strong identity, vision and sense of self, particularly for someone so young. We can’t wait for people to hear some of the wonderful songs she has waiting in the wings.”

Parle, who is currently in her final year of high school on the NSW Central Coast, reflected on the writing of ‘Back Up’ and the reception the song received in this year’s International Songwriting Competition.

“’Back Up’ is a special song to me and came pretty quickly,” Parle said.

“I wrote it about a relationship breakdown and all the emotions I felt when I was trying to get over it. It was one of those songs that just fell onto the paper,

“Winning the Teen Category in the ISC really cemented that songwriting is what I’m meant to do. To have ‘Back Up’ recognised in an international songwriting competition is beyond exciting. It’s a really raw and emotional song that I think people can relate to and I can’t wait for it to be out into the world!”

‘Back Up’ will receive its official release to streaming services on Friday June 4.
