Listen Out attendee figures revealed

The Listen Out tour has drawn a total of 68,000 over its four-city run.

The first show, in Melbourne, drew 15,000. It was followed by 18,000 in Perth, 25,000 in Sydney and 10,000 in Brisbane. All cities were sell-outs, promoter Fuzzy confirmed to TMN.

The 20-strong bill included RÜFÜS, Anderson.Paak, A$AP Ferg, Travis Scott, Cosmo’s Midnight, Ngaiire, Tash Sultana and Slumberjack.

The Sydney show, on October 1 at Centennial Park, attracted some negative publicity when NSW Police reported that 120 people were charged with drug offences. 116 of these were for possession, and 13 for supply.

Two teenagers on a private party bus en-route on the M2 motorway were taken to Westmead Hospital for suspected drug overdose. Another 115 were treated on site.

Five people were charged with deal in proceeds of crime offences; three for alleged assault and three alleged assault police offences; six people allegedly resisting police in the execution of duty; five people for hindering police; two trespass offences, seven fail to quit, and one person alleged to have produced fraudulent identification.

Police praised the behaviour of the larger crowd, and also of promoter Fuzzy which had warned patrons before there would be a police presence.

Operation Commander, Superintendent Karen McCarthy said, “The organisers put together a well-run event and we will continue to work with them in the future to help ensure music-lovers can attend in a safe, drug-free environment.”

Police were also in high profile presence at the Sydney site’s fences to prevent any fence jumping. At the festival’s Perth show, riot police were rushed to help festival security personnel who were overwhelmed by 200 fence jumpers. Three police officers were assaulted, one was bitten.
