Laura O’Callaghan joins Triple M Breakfast in Adelaide, forming Roo, Ditts & Loz

Radio isn’t done with its line-up changes as we hurtle towards the end of the year, with Triple M in Adelaide the latest station to make a move.

The station has announced Laura ‘Loz’ O’Callaghan will be joining the long-standing Breakfast line-up of Mark ‘Roo’ Ricciuto and Chris ‘Ditts’ Dittmar.

The move transforms the Roo & Ditts show into Roo, Ditts & Loz. 

O’Callaghan had been on Adelaide’s community station Fresh 92.7 with co-host Mark ‘Thomo’ Thomas, before they left in March this year.

Not long after, the duo popped up at Triple M, hosting its Weekend Breakfast slot from 7am to 9am on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Music Network understands O’Callaghan and Thomas will continue to front Triple M Weekend Breakfast, despite O’Callaghan’s new commitments.

In making the announcement this morning, the show played audio of a skit whereby the Triple M Adelaide management team was attempting to increase the station’s appeal with younger audiences.

Their solution was O’Callaghan, dubbed “a voice of hope”.

“A fresh face, ready to tackle the big issues, stare blankly into the distance as the boys talk AFL trade, and ready to take the first step toward a possible gambling addiction,” the voiceover said in introducing the new co-host.

O’Callaghan had previously flagged with this writer her desire to do more on-air gigs.

“I don’t mind getting up on the weekends, but I actually really miss being on air every day. There’s a really big sense of fulfilment that I get out of doing these shows, so I do miss doing it every day. I would like to do more, if anything,” she said.

She also noted the station had afforded her the time, space and respect to absolutely be herself.

“I think I’ve surprised my co-workers in that I’m probably a bit more crass and disturbed than they are – and so I fit right in, to be honest,” she adds. “I haven’t had any encounters there that have pinged my feminist antenna at all. It’s been really comfortable. I’ve felt like I can really be myself, and I feel like I’m allowed to be quite crass, but there’s also space for me to be really feminine as well. So I’m really enjoying it,” she said of her transition to commercial radio.

And now, she said it’s an “absolute thrill” to be joining Roo & Ditts full-time.

“I’m such a big fan of them both, it feels surreal to be joining the team,” she said in a statement. “They have been very welcoming and we’re already having a lot of fun. I’m excited to see what mischief we can get up to.”

Triple M’s content director, Matthew O’Reilly, added: “Loz has hit the ground running after regularly contributing to Triple M Breakfast this year. Her skills are very diverse, and she brings a different perspective to the show as well as keeping Roo and Ditts honest.”
