Kylie Minogue’s ‘Padam Padam’ is a Chart Leader in the U.K.
The sun’s out, the domestic football season has wrapped up, and now, a Padamic is sweeping the United Kingdom.
Kylie Minogue’s new number “Padam Padam” (via BMG) is proving catchy as a COVID. The electro-pop song opened on the Official U.K. Singles Chart last Friday (May 26) at No. 26, for her 52nd appearance in the top 40 and highest-charting track there in almost a decade.
“Padam Padam” was the most-downloaded song of the week in the U.K., for a No. 1 start on the Official Singles Sales Chart and Download Chart.
The track isn’t going away anytime soon. “Padam Padam” is on the rise, lifting to No. 18 on the all-genres, all-formats chart blast and making a strong case for a 35th top 10 entry, the Official Charts Company (OCC) reports.
The last time Kylie had a whiff of the top 10 was “Into The Blue,” which peaked out at No. 12 back in 2014.
You’d have to go back to 2010 and “All The Lovers” (No. 3 peak) for Kylie’s last solo appearance in the top 10.
The raunchy, heavily-Autotuned cut was written by producer Lostboy (Griff, Anne-Marie, Tiesto) and Ina Wroldsen, who worked on Clean Bandit’s Rockabye and the early hits of “The Saturdays,” and “ignited a fire across social media,” the OCC reports.
Sophie Muller directed the accompanying music video, which was shot in Los Angeles and sees Kylie dressed head-to-toe in red. In the 12 days since launch, the clip has chalked up more than 3.1 million views worldwide.
“Padam Padam” has also enjoyed exposure in the United States, and globally via YouTube, thanks to Kylie’s duet with contestant Nutsa during the final of American Idol 2023.
Kylie is the undisputed Princess of Pop in her adopted homeland, with seven U.K. No. 1 1 singles and eight No. 1 albums to her credit.
With the release of Disco in 2020, she established a new record by becoming the first female artist to score a U.K. No. 1 LP in five consecutive decades.
In Australia, “Padam Padam” gave the local music community a much-needed top 40 appearance on the ARIA Singles Chart, debuting last Friday at No. 39.
Kylie will get a chance to continue her albums streak when, on Sept. 22, she releases the new studio set, Tension.
