Kanye West joins exclusive US chart club with Eminem, Beatles
Kanye West’s ye might have received varying reviews, but it’s just given him membership of an exclusive chart club in the United States.
Ye is West’s eighth consecutive album to debut at #1.
Only two other artists have enjoyed that accolade – Eminem and The Beatles.
Ye sold 205,000 total copies in its first week in America, with the help of 120,000 album equivalent streams. 85,000 copies were on traditional formats.
It features Kid Cudi, Nicki Minaj, Ty Dolla Sign and 070 Shake among its guests.
Unlike his last album The Life of Pablo which was initially only on Tidal, this one was on all major services.
In Australia, Ye also debuted at #1 on the ARIA chart, his second local chart-topper.
Meantime, all seven tracks on the album also debuted the ARIA singles chart.
The highest of these was ‘All Mine’ which entered at #12.
The others were ‘Yikes’ (#18), ‘Ghost Town’ (#22), ‘Wouldn’t Leave’ (#33), ‘Violent Crimes’ (#40), ‘I Thought About Killing You’ (#41) and ‘No Mistakes’ (#46).
West last appeared on the singles chart with ‘Famous’ (#43 Jul. ’16).
