The role on offer:
Reporting into the Sydney News Editor, the News Writer is a newly created and exciting behind-the-scenes role. You will work closely with our breakfast talent and personalities to identify and create compelling news that is delivered to our unique and varied target audience. Importantly, you will have a high level of competence and experience and be genuinely excited about providing our listeners with the most relevant, up to date news.
This is a truly ‘make it your own’ role with plenty of scope. We are looking for an ambitious individual who will take full advantage of the development opportunities that this role affords including on-air duties from time to time. In addition, you will have the opportunity to work across an extensive remit of the SCA eco-system including both radio and LiSTNR, our exciting new Audio-On-Demand app. If you want to work with a high-performing and passionate news team where you can be your best self, then this is the role for you!
The skills and experience you will need:
Minimum of three years full time commercial radio experience, preferably in a metro market
Experience as an ‘on-air’ news reader with a confident, conversational reading style which suits our brand (highly desirable)
Can produce accurate, punchy and creative bulletins whilst achieving tight work deadlines
Love to work in both a solo and team environment
Talent management experience (highly desirable)
Have excellent knowledge of news and sport, a knowledge of local, national and international issues is crucial
Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Understand social media and how it relates to newsgathering and story creation
Experience with NewsBoss is preferable
