EXCLUSIVE: Inertia MD Tim Kelly stepping down
Inertia Music’s Managing Director Tim Kelly will depart his position at the company today.
Kelly confirmed to TMN that this is his last day of full-time work at Inertia, which was acquired by UK label [PIAS] in January, and that he will be returning in a consulting role three days a week in June after a short break, continuing to work with the PR, sales, marketing and digital teams.
“I’ve had a wonderful time at Inertia and am proud to have worked with and developed such a great group of people and fantastic labels/artists. I’m looking forward to my break, consulting back to Inertia and exploring the next steps on my journey,” Kelly says.
“With the [PIAS] sale now complete, I intend to work closely with the Inertia team to focus on growing and diversifying the business,” Inertia CEO Colin Daniels told TMN via email earlier today.
“I will be forever grateful to Tim for overseeing Inertia for the past two years, especially for the period when I took a lot of time off to look after my family. I am personally very happy he has agreed to stay on in a consultancy/coaching role.
“We have a young, vibrant team, keen to continue their development and I couldn’t think of a better person to be there alongside them.”
Kelly took over as Managing Director in April 2015 following Daniels’ promotion to CEO earlier that month.
He has over two decades of music industry experience. His previous roles include General Manager Marketing at Sony Music, General Manager Marketing at UMA and roles in the UK, including co-founder of iconic indie label One Little Indian, Head of International at Rough Trade Records, and Managing Director of Pinnacle Labels.
