The inaugural Ricochet BALL, the music industry’s charity mixed netball tournament, has raised over $24,000 being raised for charity.

Held at he Robyn Webster Sports Centre in Tempe, the winners TMRW Music donated their $6,000 prize money to their designated charity, the Stillbirth Foundation.

Ricochet BALL was conceived by songwriter, DJ and radio host KLP and music publicist Anna Fitzgerald.

They said the idea was to bring people from creative industries together, “in a safe, healthy and inclusive environment to raise money for charity.”

The pair revealed they had twice as many offers from companies as they needed.

The teams which took to the court last Friday were APRA AMCOS, Warner Music, EMI, TMRW Music, [V], Spotify, The Projects*, The M Agency, Select Music, Background, Nike and ‘Lights, Camera, Attack-tion’ a team of musicians and media including Nick Drabble from Set Mo and Gemma Pike from triple j.

With each team choosing their own charities, beneficiaries also included the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Musicians Making A Difference, the Gurrumul Yunupingu Foundation, Red Dust and Project Futures.

The full list of teams and charities is on the Ricochet BALL My Cause page.

Among the event’s sponsors were Nike who decked out the players, who were fuelled up by Nandos and H2Coco and glammed by The Dazzle Dolls.

DJs Stace Cadet, Mell Hall, Stu Turner and Erin Marshall provided the tunes throughout the day on DJ gear supplied by DJ Warehouse.

At the after party at the Botany View Hotel, TMRW Music were awarded the inaugural Frank Strongs trophy, as well as their cheque for over $6,000.

Nike won a prize package for the team that raised the most money.

On the first Ricochet BALL, KLP said, “We are so thrilled with the turn out for the very first Ricochet BALL and more importantly, overall we raised over $24,000 for charity!

“We’d like to thank all the sponsors and volunteers who helped out on the day and we can’t wait to do it all again next year!

“Hopefully everyone’s netball muscles have recovered by then!”
