APRA AMCOS and the AGSC (Australian Guild of Screen Composers) have announced that the 2016 Screen Music Awards will be held on Tuesday November 8 at the City Recital Hall in Sydney. Still the only Australian event to showcase the unseen champions of music composition in film and television, the Awards will be hosted by The Chaser’s Chris Taylor and Andrew Hansen and will feature music direction by Emmy Award-winning screen composer Ashley Irwin. The Screen Music Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of Australian composers across 12 categories including compositions for documentaries, short films, mini-series, advertising, children’s television and feature film scores. “Our members are doing fantastic work in the film and television space, and the Screen Music Awards highlight and honour their talent and success.” – Brett Cottle, Chief Executive APRA AMCOS. Ashley Irwin will lead a live orchestra which will perform a selection of nominated compositions at the event. Known as one of Hollywood’s most versatile screen composers, Ashley has worked on the Academy Awards (including arranging and producing the music for the 88th event this year) and is a regular collaborator with Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood. Ashley will add his magic to the Screen Music Awards for the fourth time as Music Director. Returning for their fifth stint as hosts are Chris Taylor and Andrew Hansen, who last held MC duties in 2013. Best known for their satirical ABC television shows The Chaser’s War on Everything, CNNNNN and The Hamster Wheel, the dynamic duo most recently collaborated on the satirical comedy Conversation with Lionel Corn, an unsparing send-up of every earnest ‘In Conversation’ writers festival event you’ve ever been to. Nominees for the 2016 Screen Music Awards will be announced late September. www.apraamcos.com.au www.agsc.org.au |
