Heatseeker: J Cole feat TLC – Crooked Smile
Crooked Smile sees TLC brought out of hiding and onto vocal duties following a string of recent festival performances.
J Cole’s second album Born Sinner, from which Crooked Smile is the second single, dropped on June 18th this year and sold nearly 300,000 copies in the US in its first week.
One of Music Week’s key releases this week, the single, dropped in the UK yesterday, is already #37 on the Billboard Hot 100. The hype around this track stateside is high, following a performance on Conan O’Brien’s late night talk show two weeks ago.
Already picked up by twenty retail, community and independent radio stations in Australia before being officially serviced, the song offers a refreshing message to women in this age of skin-deep, superficial beauty.
Think along the same lines of Kendrick Lamar, Drake, and Big Sean etc. who have all since broken the mainstream in recent months after a slow start in commercial radio in this country.
