Heatseeker: Drake – Hold On, We’re Going Home

Having your album placed on the same pedestal as Kanye’s Yeezus and Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail is no small feat. It’s a testament to the crazy hype and anticipation behind Drake’s latest, which dropped here last Friday (and today in the US), Nothing Was The Same.

The success of current single Hold On, We’re Going Home is monstrous overseas. And finally Australia is slowly getting behind it. A few notable chart facts:

#7 MusicWeek UK singles chart
#11 MusicWeek UK airplay chart
#6 iTunes UK Singles chart
#6 Shazam top tags chart UK
#3 Shazam top tags chart US
#3 Shazam top tags chart Canada
#1 Shazam top tags chart Aus
#9 Billboard Hot100 (Peak at #8)
#1 ARIA Urban singles chart
#9 ARIA singles chart

NTWS #1 iTunes Album chart UK
NTWS #1 iTunes Album Chart Aus

You might be saying: “this isn’t a heatseeker, we know it, we love it and it’s had its success.” Well, we predict more. Drake sails in the same boat as Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, Frank Ocean do in Australia, and we nearly miss it every time it sails by.

Internationally he’s playing VMA’s and IHeartRadio and selling out shows, yet he’s never been to Australia (promoters and agents take note). He’s been added across the board on NOVA and Today networks and he’s still rising through our charts (currently #12 TMN Hot 100). We predict the track will hit the top 5 in the coming weeks.

After this long-overdue success, we can’t wait to see how quickly the next single leaps through our charts.

On a side note: previous Heatseeker Sonnentanz is making big waves overseas but still meddling around in the bottom half of our charts.
