Harry Styles is the highest debuting artist on the Hot 100 ever
Harry Styles’Sign Of The Times was the third-most heard single on Australian radio in the last week, and hasset a new record for the highest debut in the TMN Hot 100 chart’s history.
The One Direction heartthrob’s first solo single has debuted at #3 on the latest Hot 100, as well as being the #1 most added to radio.
At the time of writing, since last Friday when the single dropped at 5pmAEST,Sign Of The Timeshas been played precisely 650 times across the main commercial stations from the KIIS, Hit and Nova networks. It was the most-played track on Nova (382 spins) and the more talk-focused KIIS (75).
The second most-played single in the last week is The Chainsmokers and Coldplay’s Something Just Like This,with583 spins across commercial also taking it to #2 on the Hot 100.
This means that, between Signand Something, Sony had the two most-played tracks on commercial radio this week.
The highest-debut record has been replaced twice in the past year, not including Styles’ new entry. Justin Timberlake’s Can’t Stop The Feeling set a new peak last year at #9, but that was broken earlier in 2017 by Katy Perry’s Chained To The Rhythm ft. Skip Marley which entered at #8.
Although it didn’t set a record, Lorde saw a high debut on the Hot 100 last month: at #9, with her hugely anticipated singleGreen Light. It’s taken a few weeks, but the track climbed to #1 on this week’s chart.
Rounding out the Top 5 on the Hot 100 are Bruno Mars’ That’s WhatI Likeat #4 andStay, by Zedd ft. Alessia Cara, at #5.
The Hot 100 is an airplay chart reflecting the most-heard songs on Australian radio, based on spins weighted against audience figures from the latest radio survey.
Styles’ feat also means that after more than 20 years of the Hot 100, there are only two more chances for a song to break this record – or one, if a track ever manages to debut at the top of the chart.
