Hardwell #1 DJ in the world; Aussies also rank in Top 100

Hardwell, who played some spectacular outdoor shows in Australia earlier this month, was named the world’s #1 DJ for the second time on DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list.

“This is a dream that just keeps going!” he said. “Last year was a moment in my career I had spent 10 years dreaming of. But to be back on stage again, picking up the award for a second time in a row, is beyond my wildest dreams.”

The shapeshifting EDM superstar accepted his award at the sold-out Amsterdam Music Festival on the weekend. Hardwell aka Robbert van de Corput, who started his career at 14, was the youngest to top the list last year.

The others in the Top 10 were:

2. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike

3. Armin Van Buuren

4. Martin Garrix

5. Tiësto

6. Avicii

7. David Guetta

8. Nicky Romero

9. Skrillex

10. Steve Aoki

A number of Australians also made the list. Melbourne born Miriam and Olivia Nervo (Nervo), who recently hit 2 million Facebook fans, were at #21, down from #16 last year.

Knife Party, who head back to Australia in December behind the November 10 release of their Abandon Ship album, dropped to #53 from #25. “Oh no, number 53,” they quipped on Twitter. “Surely the next step for us is sucking dick for crack money, and then…a slow fade into irrelevancy.”

At #59 was Stereosonic bound British house and techno figure Carl Cox (down 13) who spends six months of the year in his second home in Frankston, Melbourne.
