Goodbye Ruby Tuesday – benefit concert for Carol Lloyd
Tickets go on sale Wednesday 14 September for Goodbye Ruby Tuesday, a special all-star event in honour of Australia’s first ‘Rock Chick’ Carol Lloyd, being held at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) Concert Hall on Thursday 20 October.
Carol has spent a lifetime touching the hearts, minds and souls of music lovers with countless chart toppers and a career spanning decades, as the singer-songwriter for 70s band Railroad Gin and with the Carol Lloyd Band. With her music and big personality, Carol quickly became a household name and a central character in Australia’s rock history.
Since 2014, Carol has been fighting terminal pulmonary fibrosis, a serious respiratory disease in which scars form in the lung tissue, leading to serious breathing problems. Recently her health has taken a sudden decline, revealing a diagnosis from her specialist that ‘she is now in the final stages’.
Music lovers are invited to celebrate this ‘wild woman of rock’ and her music at a special benefit concert starring a line up of stellar Australian artists who all have a special story to tell about how Carol touched their lives.
The artists have all donated their time and all funds raised at the event will go towards assisting with Carol’s medical expenses in her final days.
Goodbye Ruby Tuesday artists include: Katie Noonan & george, Kate Miller-Heidke, Troy Cassar-Daley, Laurel Edwards & Family, The Kransky Sisters, Bob Downe (Mark Trevorrow), Jan van de Stool (Queenie van de Zandt), Emma Dean, Alison St Ledger, Leah Cotterell, Yani, Peter Harvey, Ellen Reed, Frank Millward (Railroad Gin) & Heather Keens, The Camerata of St John’s Chamber Orchestra, and the Women in Voice Band led by Steve Russell.
Brisbane singer-songwriter darling and Artistic Director of Queensland Music Festival Katie Noonan has looked up to Carol as an inspiration throughout her career.
“We don’t know how long we will have her with us so we want to do something extraordinary for this extraordinary woman,” said Noonan.
Celebrate Carol Lloyd’s music, her joy, her passion, her fierce individuality and her take-no-prisoners ‘Rock Chick’ approach, as we pay tribute to this legendary women with Goodbye Ruby Tuesday.
