G Flip wins the latest $30,000 Levi’s Music Prize

G Flip wins the latest $30,000 Levi’s Music Prize

G Flip’s 2018 BIGSOUND run cemented her as the latest Levi’s Music Prize winner.

Adding a cool $30,000 to the kitty, G Flip joins the likes of Amyl & the Sniffers, Ecca Vandal and The Teskey Brothers in winning the latest round of the Levi’s Music Prize.

The award, determined by a panel of international judges attending BIGSOUND, is in its fourth year. As part of the prize, the winning musician or group receives $25,000 from Levi’s Australia as well as $5,000 from Stage and Screen to help them with touring and export goals.

Following on from making an understandably huge splash BIGSOUND in 2018, the Melbourne multi-instrumentalist and producer caught the attention of the panel quickly.

“G Flip is one of the most multitalented artists that’s been involved in the Levi’s Music Prize program,” Trent Bos (Head of Marketing, Levi’s Australia) has said. “She’s such a talented producer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter. We’re so stoked to be able to contribute to the wave of momentum that G Flip already has and see where the Levi’s Music Prize can help take her in the coming months and years ahead.”

The Levi’s Music Prize is awarded to four Australian and New Zealand artists each year, bringing the total financial pool up to $120,000 – one of the most coveted monetary prizes in the country.

“I’m so stoked,” G Flip said in her recorded acceptance video. “The money will go to getting my little arse around the world to write for myself and for other artists. Thank you so much Levi’s, thank you Stage and Screen, and thank you for supporting Australian music. It’s so brilliant that you do this and I thank you so much.”

Artists from Australia and New Zealand who have performed at BIGSOUND from 2015-2019 are eligible to apply for the Levi’s Music Prize through the official website.
