G Flip, Gretta Ray, Troye Sivan and More Nominated for APRA Song of the Year
After landing a record seven songs in triple j’s Hottest 100 countdown last month, and scoring multiple trophies at the 2023 ARIA Awards, G Flip has the APRA Song of the Year title in their sights.
G Flip’s “The Worst Person Alive” and “Be Your Man” are two of 25 compositions nominated for the peer-voted APRA Song of the Year, the top honour at the PRO’s annual celebration of songwriters and music publishers.
This year marks G Flip’s first appearance in the Song of the Year shortlist (with co-writer Aidan Hogg), while Genesis Owusu collects a brace of chances, with “Get Inspired” and “Leaving the Light.”

First-timers in the list include songwriters Romy Vager (RVG), Shannon Busch, Stephen Mowat, Gretta Ray, Chris Collins and Rudy Sandapa, Canberra punk-rockers Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers, and Australia’s 2023 Eurovision Song Contest reps Voyager, with their synth-rock beast “Promise.”
Also, APRA members have selected songs by Kylie Minogue, Sia, Polaris, Jen Cloher, Angie McMahon, King Stingray, Dan Sultan, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Sarah Aarons (co-writing Budjerah’s “Therapy”), Styalz Fuego, Amy Shark, Matt Corby, The Teskey Brothers and Tex Perkins, Kevin Parker, Paul Kelly (with The Triffids’ late frontman David McComb) and more.
The list will be whittled down to a final five, announced Thursday, April 4 along with nominees across all 2024 APRA Music Awards.
Winners will announced at the APRAs, set for May 1 at the ICC Sydney, on Gadigal land.
