Future Classic ink deal with Melbourne band Fortunes

PRESS RELEASE:

Introducing Fortunes. aka Conor McCabe and Barnaby Matthews, the Melbourne via New Zealand music duo who today share their new single ’501’s’, the pair’s first offering from their forthcoming project in 2017, which premiered overnight via triple j’s Good Nights and Pigeons & Planes. It’s a day-dreamy, sunset jam with tongue in cheek storytelling, syrupy synths and stacks of vocal harmonies that builds on a sound uniquely their own.

Of the song,Fortunes. say, “It’s about when the weather is hot and you see a hot guy and he looks real good in his jeans”.

501’s’ and it’s accompanying tour dates in Sydney and Melbourne next month, come with the announcement of their recent signing to Future Classic, joining the likes of Flume, Seekae and Nick Murphy.

Of the signing, Future Classic co-founder Nathan McLay notes, “Our first signing in over a year, we are thrilled to welcome Fortunes. to the Future Classic roster. The guys have amazing energy and the music is hottt!!! Real talk and maad soul.”

Although they vaguely knew each other while attending the same high school in their native New Zealand, it wasn’t until both vocalist Conor, and producer Barnaby relocated to Melbourne that the pair re-connected.

By chance, they ended up at the same house party where Barnaby told friends what an amazing singer Conor was. After being provoked by the crowd, Conor sang an acapella rendition of D’Angelo ‘Devils Pie’ and everyone in attendance stood in awe. Later that evening, Barnaby invited Conor to record some vocals and they ended up creating a playful cover of Pink’s ‘There You Go’. Shortly after, Fortunes.was born.

Before signing to Future Classic, the duo released two independent projects; 2015’s Hoodie EP and early 2016’s Jacket EP, which saw them receive high rotation spins on triple j and support from Jamz Supernova on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

Live, they have supported Shlohmo, Lapsley, Kilo Kish, Kllo, JMSN and Oddisee, and performed at Splendour In the Grass, Let Them Eat Cake and Bigsound Festivals. Catch them across their debut headline dates this November before seeing them live in 2017 supporting AlunaGeorge and performing at Auckland’s St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival.
