Evening Star changes hands; legendary Club 54 reopens

Sydney’s Evening Star in Surry Hills has changed hands for $6 million while Bondi Junction’s The Tea Gardens, which features bands and DJs, has gone up for sale.

The former owners of Coolangatta’s Never Land club last year have reopened it under the name Rattlesnake Motel.

Launceston’s Club 54, which hosted a raft of major acts a decade ago, is set to reopen from May 16. The 500-capacity room has been closed for six years. Booking agent Brad Harbeck says it will host bands on the weekends.

The Bank Niteclub in Townsville could reopen under new operators, the property’s owner Mark Adams revealed. The club’s previous occupant Saga Hospitality Group went into receivership earlier this year.

Surfers Paradise nightclub Shuffle was closed down two weeks after police raids on the Gold Coast saw owners and DJs arrested for alleged drug related crimes. It marks the end for two venues which were live music meccas in their day.

Wollongong’s Oxford Tavern is under the wrecker’s ball to be turned into a resident complex.
