EMC announces first round of EMCPlay Artists
PRESS RELEASE: Bringing Sydney’s electronic music community together for its fifth year is Electronic Music Conference 2016, to be held from Monday November 28 – Friday December 2 at Sydney’s prestigious Ivy Complex. By day, EMC will host some of the world’s most renowned names in the electronic music industry for a series of panels, workshops and masterclasses including talks from Mirik Milan (Amsterdam’s Night Mayor), Martin Phillips (Bionic League), Patrick Donovan (Music Victoria) and Raj Chaudhuri (Boiler Room) amongst many others. By night, EMC transforms into EMCPlay programmed by Dave Ruby Howe. EMCPlay is a one-of-a-kind series of parties taking place on Wednesday November 30th, showcasing the best of the best in rising electronic artists from all around Australia – the perfect mid-week party. Join Dave as he transforms Sydney into a playground for grown-ups for one night only, hosting numerous showcases and parties at some of Sydney’s leading live music venues. Not only is EMCPlay aimed at showcasing which electronic artists have been making waves in 2016, but also to unveil what raw talent lies ahead for 2017. On EMCPlay 2016, Dave says: “From shuddering club music out of WA to emotional electronica from the Northern Territory and heavyweight hitmakers in Sydney, the applications for EMCPlay 2016 offered us an exciting reflection of the crazy amount of talented artists making electronic music in Australia right now. We couldn’t be more stoked to share the first lineup announcement for this year’s EMCPlay featuring a couple of favourite faces and some emerging stars who we reckon will define the future sound of Australian electronic music.” The first artist today revealed in the initial announcement of Australia’s leading electronic artists is Queensland based, electronic producer Paces. It has been an exciting year for Paces (Mikey Perry), who released his debut album Vacation earlier this year, supported by an Australian/New Zealand Tour. The album’s first single “1993 (No Chill)” featuring Jess Kent has been gracing radio stations everywhere with its melodic vocals and catchy bass line, so there is no doubt he will deliver a stellar live show. Joining him is triple j Unearthed NIMA competition winner Kuren, who recently wrapped his first national tour and released his anticipated new single “Red Dress” featuring Canberra’s Turqoise Prince LTC. From Hillston, regional NSW the young producer has quickly found a fan base in his beats-based project, with his 2015 single “Home” ft. Ben Alessi reaching #10 in the iTunes electronic charts. Perth-based artist Lower Spectrum makes another proud addition to EMCPlay, with his rich woven electronica that’s named him one of the country’s most exciting producers. Set to release an EP with Pilerats Records, and having supported the likes of Panthu Du Prince, Onra and Nightmares on Wax – prepare for Lower Spectrum to captivate the EMC crowd with his shape-shifting immersive sounds. Set to follow suit, are brother and sister duo Lastlings. While one half of the duo (Amy Dowdle) is aged only 16 and her brother (Joshua Dowdle) at only 21, the pair are making some serious waves across the Australian music scene with their lush electronica, earning a spot as triple j Unearthed Highfinalists in 2016. Lastlings admit the project has only been in the mix for just over a year now, which makes their presence on the line-up all the more intriguing. Sydney duo Human Movement will add a darker hue to EMCPlay with their house and techno-driven productions, and heavy-hitting live show. The pair performed at Splendour in the Grass earlier this year, and off the back of their two EPs Subcity and Dancing Room – draw heaving dance floors wherever they appear. Meanwhile, Adelaide-born Tigerilla will deservedly make his mark, following the release of a new single “Tulips” featuring Gill Bates and his collaborations with the likes of Allday, Mallrat and Baro. A signee to new label Night High Records, Tigerilla recently featured onstage with Nicole Millar, performing to monumental crowds on Troye Sivan’s Blue Neighbourhood tour. Adding to the darker corner of the lineup, is Sydney DJ and producer Paris Forscutt, aka Made In Paris. Paris brings her dark and melodic sounds to the stage, indulging techno and tech-house fans alike. The self-curated producer has released EPs with Sydney techno connoisseurs Motorik, founded her own label Upon Access, and shared bills with the likes of Zombie Nation, receiving support from Tiga, DJ T, Maceo Plex and much more. EMCPlay will also host Melbourne-born, electronic delight Alice Ivy. After a mere 18 months since founding the project, the hip-hop/electro-indie/soul star caught the attention of artists and audiences combined with her layered soundscapes and soulful energy, earning herself support slots for Remi, Banoffee and Urthboy on their US, UK and European tours. With an immense, four-piece live show – Andrew Grant and Mickey Kojak – aka The Tapes, will too take to the stage with their lo-fi, retro-tinted sounds. The pair released their maiden single “At All”, making huge strides as they prepare for the release of their debut five-track EP, out later this year. And rounding out the first announcement of artists is Perth DJ and producer Tina Says. The self-taught DJ has practically been raised in the club, having already played 150+ shows, her bass-heavy, grimey industrial sets supporting rave guns Alison Wonderland and Nina Las Vegas, along with festival appearances at Southbound, Castaway and Splendour In The Grass. With over 40 artists anticipated to perform at EMCPlay, there are many more to be announced. The venues will stretch from Darlinghurst to Kings Cross over 1 massive night of emerging electronic music.Watch the announce video here.
