Warner Chappell Music’s David Goldsen is adding to his remit by taking on responsibility for A&R in Australia.

Goldsen has been with Warner Music in A&R since 2009, prior to which he had internships with both Warner Bros. and Epic Records.

The executive now becomes head of A&R for Australia as well as vice president of creative, and will relocate from New York to Los Angeles for the role.

The publisher said Goldsen had been instrumental in bringing superstar Tones & I to WCM in 2019, and has subsequently been spearheading songwriting sessions for her follow-up collaborative LP.

He will also continue to support the publisher’s US and UK efforts, reporting to WCM’s co-chair and CEO, Guy Moot. Goldsen will also work closely with the managing director of WCM in Australia, Matthew Capper.

In a joint statement, Moot and WCM’s other co-chair and COO, Carianne Marshall, noted the role Goldsen had already played in Australia’s local music scene.

“With music becoming increasingly more global, we’re prioritising our A&R efforts in Australia, which is already exploding with incredible talent,” they said.

“David has already built an internationally recognisable roster with acts like Tones & I, Vance Joy, and Cavetown, so his transition into this role is a natural one.

“His relationships and creative expertise will bring exciting international opportunities to both our current Australian hitmakers and future signings, connecting them with our global roster and beyond.”

Capper added that he was thrilled to have Goldsen on board as a dedicated A&R lead.

“His expertise will be instrumental in helping us to champion the great music coming out of our region,” he said.

Goldsen too was full of excitement.

“Australia is home to so many fantastic songwriters and artists, and I’m very grateful to Guy and Catherine for entrusting me with growing such an important market,” he said.

“This is an incredible opportunity to help local songwriters broaden their reach and collaborate with different artists, writers, and producers across borders and genres.

“I’m equally excited to continue working closely with Ryan [Press, president of WCM North America] and Shani [Gonzales, managing director of WCM UK] to introduce our US and international writers to Australia’s explosive music scene and exceptional talent.”
