Courtney Barnett is on track for first UK Top 10

Courtney Barnett’s ‘Lotta Sea Lice’ is getting a lotta love in the U.K.

The Aussie singer-songwriter’s collaboration with American indie-rocker Kurt Vile opens at #7 on the U.K. midweek chart and, if it hangs on when the weekly chart is published late Friday, should give Barnett her first Top 10 in that market.

‘Lotta Sea Lice’ (via Marathon Artists in the U.K.) should easily eclipse the No. 16 chart peak for Barnett’s ‘Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit,’ her debut, Australian Music Prize-winning LP from 2015.

The cruisey country meets slacker rock union includes the singles ‘Over Everything’ and ‘Continental Breakfast’, a cover of Jen Cloher’s ‘Fear Is Like A Forest’ and a version of Belly’s 90’s cult fave ‘Untogether’ and is already a critical smash on both sides of the Atlantic.

Rolling Stone describes the album as one “full of autumn guitar prettiness and warm, wry lyrics” while Stereogum declared it the album of the week, an “ambling, charming collection of songs with the most “Dude abides” vibes of any record this year.” Barnett and Vile’s U.S. tour is a sellout.

For the record, Pink’s seventh album ‘Beautiful Trauma’ leads the Official Chart Update, published overnight by the Official Charts Company.

‘Lotta Sea Lice’ was released in Australia through Barnett and Cloher’s own label Milk! Records alongside Matador Records.
