‘They Work Hard, Tour Hard, and Make Some Super Catchy Music’: Civilians Signs Austrian Duo to Roster

Australian label Civilians has added an international act to its roster.
The Melbourne-based indie this week announced that it has signed Austrian indie-rock duo Cari Cari to its stable ahead of the act’s third studio album, One More Trip Around The Sun, set for release on Friday, March 7th.
“Serendipitously, the algorithm led Civilians to Cari Cari,” label founder, Stu Harvey said.
“‘Summer Sun’ started playing in the office after another album, and I found myself humming it for hours afterward—always a good sign. I sent a total cold-call email to introduce myself, and, wisely, Alex initially thought it was a scam. Thankfully, they replied, and within days, we were all on a Zoom meeting getting to know each other.
They have a strong DIY ethos, which we love. They work hard, tour hard, and make some super catchy music. We’re absolutely stoked to be working with Cari Cari in Australia and New Zealand. I feel their new music will really resonate with audiences locally.”
Founded in the mid 2010’s, Cari Cari released their debut EP in 2014 and very quickly headed to Australia to perform.
“Australia has always been special to us. Our second-ever show was in Darwin, NT, and our first tour was in Australia,” singer and guitarist, Alexander Köck, explained.
“This is where we became a band, discovered the Yidaki, and truly shaped our sound. So when Civilians reached out, we were over the moon to join such a unique roster of incredible artists and connect with more Australians. It feels a bit like coming home (and it doesn’t hurt that they’re a bunch of great people).
“We hope this is just the beginning of a long relationship with many more trips Down Under.”
Following the release of One More Trip Around The Sun, Cari Cari will embark on a tour throughout Europe and the US.
