Bruno Mars breaks stadium record set by U2 and Michael Jackson

Bruno Mars’ Hawaii homecoming will be one for the history books.

The multiple-Grammy winner’s 24k Magic World Tour has just added a third stop at Aloha Stadium on Nov. 8, busting the attendance records set by U2 and Michael Jackson.

The pop singer’s three-night stand at the 50,000-capacity venue (including Nov. 10 and 11) is a first, and all dates sold out thanks to a shrewd initiative which offered priority sales to postcode-restricted Hawaii residents for a 48-hour window. U2 and Michael Jackson both nailed two -night sellouts at the Honolulu stadium.

Produced by Live Nation, the “Uptown Funk” singer’s 130-plus show global trek kicked off in 2017 and has visited North America, Latin America, the U.K. and Europe. It’s ranked No. 1 on Billboard’s 2018 mid-year touring survey, earning $147.4 million from 63 concerts, according to Boxscore. His six-city arena tour of Australasia earlier this year shifted more than 250,000 tickets, Roger Field, CEO of Live Nation Australia and NZ told TIO.

Mars isn’t the only A-lister making big returns from the road right now. The Rolling Stones have just wrapped up the second European leg of their No Filter tour which, according to Billboard, grossed US$117 million across 14 shows, with more than three-quarters of a million tickets sold.
