Independent Australian label Bloodlines has inked a deal with US music licenser Sugaroo!

Sugaroo! is a music licensing and services shop that represents indie labels, artists and media for TV, advertising, trailers, film and video games.

The deal will see the LA company exclusively look after synchronisation for Bloodlines artists in North America.

Bloodlines – part of Michael Gudinski’s Mushroom Group of labels – was founded by Gudinski and Warren Costello.

Label general manager Dean McLachlan searched far and wide for the right licensing partner in the US.

“In some ways, our catalogue is uniquely Australian, but at the same time many of the artists we represent, such as Jimmy Barnes, Hunters & Collectors, The Angels, Sherbet and Jet, have been generational pioneers for the push into the North American market,” he says.

“Our roster is deep and it is also diverse – it includes Archie Roach, The Triffids, Troy Cassar-Daley, The Birthday Party, The Church, Yothu Yindi, Ash Grunwald, Baby Animals, Boom Crash Opera and Mondo Rock, among many others.

“And as soon as I walked into the Sugaroo! office, I knew it was the perfect home for them. Michael Nieves has built a team of incredibly passionate music people, and I could instantly feel the respect for our music.”

Sugaroo! is one of the first in independent synchronization music companies in the US and was founded in 1999 by Michael Nieves.

Nieves has a fantastic track record in that time, successfully completing more than 10,000 music licensing deals over two decades.

“To say that I was delighted when Dean McLachlan reached out to me about partnering with Bloodlines and their amazing roster would be a gross understatement,” says Nieves.

“Sugaroo! has been working with a wide range of Australian artists for more than 13 years, so we are well versed in the incredibly deep well of fantastic and license-able music that emanates from that gorgeous country.

“My team and I are thrilled and honoured to work with Bloodlines and their roster of legendary Australian artists, and happily welcome them into the Sugaroo! Family.”

The Bloodlines roster comprises some of Australia’s most iconic musicians, with 2019 releases have included albums by Jimmy Barnes, Russell Morris, Ash Grunwald, Stephen Cummings, Archie Roach and The Black Sorrows.

2020 will see releases by Mark Seymour, James Reyne, Diesel and Richard Clapton.
