BIGSOUND Live drops massive first lineup for 2018
BIGSOUND, the southern hemisphere’s biggest music conference, has unveiled the first round of upcoming acts which will take over the evenings’ Live program.
Heading up the September festival will be the likes of ‘Smoko’ stars The Chats, Melbourne trio Cable Ties, punk buzz band Slowly Slowly, recent Splendour in the Grass addition Kwame, Queensland local Pool Shop and over 70 more.
“The amount of BIGSOUND applications this year smashed last year’s record by another 70 to make up approximately 1,133 applications. That’s a lot of talent,” BIGSOUND programmer Maggie Collins said.
“Punters wanting to own the fact that ‘they discovered an artist first’, better get themselves across this massive list of acts, who are on the cusp of exploding worldwide.”
A number of more established artists will be returning to the festival to dazzle the crowds with their evolved sound, including Blank Realm, Olympia, Gabriella Cohen, Oh Pep! and Brisbane hip hop legends Butterfingers.
Queensland Minister for Tourism Industry Development, Kate Jones praised the QLD Government’s support of the event via the Tourism and Events Queensland initiative ‘It’s Live!’.
“Each year, this event brings together musicians and other music industry professionals, brands and media from around the globe, attracting thousands of music lovers from across the nation,” Jones said.
“Events like this are crucial in driving Queensland’s tourism economy, promoting Queensland’s destinations and supporting jobs.”
Previous BIGSOUND Live showcases have had a hand in boosting the careers of Tash Sultana, Stella Donnelly, Alex Lahey, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and many more.
