Beth Yen becomes fourth ever female to top ARIA Club Chart
Sydney producer Beth Yen has had one crazy career thus far. Yen has played shows alongside late Swedish musician Avicii, and led club shows internationally.
More recently, the young producer was tapped to play Sydney’s Mardi Gras festival, which is no mean feat in itself.
Now, in a win for female and LGBTQI+ members of the music community, the producer has become the fourth female artist to ever lead the ARIA Club Charts. Yen has managed to knock Calvin Harris and his hit single ‘Giant’ right off the pole position.
Yen’s track, ‘Ocean’ has made her the first solo female artist to achieve the #1 spot, since 2012. Yen’s winning position follows the lead of other hit tracks, including Zoe Badwi’s ‘Release Me’ and Helena’s ‘Girl From The Sky’.
“This is not just a win for me but a win for LGBTIQ+ women and men in the dance music industry,” Yen said.
She continues, “I hope that this inspires anyone, especially women contemplating getting involved in electronic dance music to get out there and find a way to just do it.”
Yen adds, “The music industry is listening and ready for you all.” Ready we are.
The track debuted at #25, but last week managed to leap all the way to #1, making quite the impressive mark in the history books. Yen released the track on International Women’s Day, and it features The Baroness (Michaela Baranov), who has worked closely with Peking Duk, and formerly Flight Facilities.
