Beth Appleton returns to Australia as Warner Music GM and SVP Marketing for Australasia region

Beth Appleton returns from the UK in February to take over as General Manager – Australia and SVP Marketing – Australasia for Warner Music.

It’s her second stint at Warner Music Australia, and third posting in this country.

Before that, in 2000, she came from EMI UK’s marketing team to serve as New Media Director for EMI Australia.

She was promoted two years later to Head of Marketing and New Media Director.

She returned to the UK where she worked at V2 Music (Head of Business Development) and Universal Music Group (Director of Digital, UK 2007 to 2010).

Appleton joined Warner Music in 2011 and was Director of Marketing and Digital/Business Development at its Australian operations.

In January 2014, she was recalled to the UK to serve as London-based SVP of Global Marketing at Warner Music Group.

There she worked on worldwide marketing campaigns for Bruno Mars, Charlie Puth, Coldplay, David Guetta, Ed Sheeran, Galantis, Jason Derulo, Josh Groban, Major Lazer, Michael Bublé, Pablo Alborán, Robin Schulz and twenty one pilots.

Her developing of systems that quickly identified and pushed priority acts in multiple countries and spearheaded the new wave of digital marketing saw the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) graduate awarded Music Ally’s Digital Achievement Award.

She was also lauded by Billboard as one of the top 100 Women in Music.

In her new role in Sydney, Appleton will oversee Warner’s day-to-day operations and marketing for the Australasian region.

She will report to Niko Nordström, who took over as President of Warner Music Australasia earlier this year from Tony Harlow.

“Since joining the Warner Music family six years ago, Beth has proved to be an outstanding member of our global team,” said Stu Bergen, CEO, International and Global Commercial Services for Warner Music Group.

“She has championed fresh digital strategies and innovative relationships that have hugely benefited our artist campaigns.

“I know that Niko and Beth will be great partners in leading our Australasian company.”

Nordström noted, “Since I moved from Finland to Australia earlier this year, I have been constantly impressed by the calibre and dedication of the Warner team Down Under.

“Beth brings two decades of major label experience to her new post, along with a fantastic knowledge of the entire region, infectious enthusiasm and a passionate devotion to our artists.

“She will be a tremendous addition to our family, and I know everyone is looking forward to welcoming her back to Sydney.”

Appleton added, “I’ve had the rare privilege of working for Warner Music on two continents and there’s no doubt it is a global music company second to none.

“The future is about developing new and creative ways of bringing our amazing artists’ music to the widest possible audience and I’m excited about continuing to meet that challenge in this new role.

“I want to thank Stu and Niko for this wonderful opportunity, and my friends and colleagues from around the world for their great support over the past three years.”
