Australian Music Writers Can Apply for Grants to Attend Global Music Events
Australian music writers have an exciting opportunity to apply for grants to support their travel to music events across the globe throughout 2023.
The Australia Council for the Arts is offering four travel bursaries – worth $3,000 each – to go towards travel costs for eligible writers to visit international music showcase events.
It should be noted that priority will be given to those who apply for events supported by Sounds Australia in 2023, as well as those with confirmed media content.
The travel bursaries are being provided in an effort to promote the creation of more content about Australian stories on the global market.
According to Kirsty Rivers, Australia Council’s Head of Music, it’s critically important to support local music writers to attend prestigious international events that feature Australian artists and industry members.
“There is considerable scope to open up new opportunities and markets for Australian music globally, particularly as the world opens up post-COVID,” she said.
“This project is part of a suite of projects supporting the visibility and discoverability of Australian music by investing in quality critical discourse and music journalism, such as Music Writers’ Lab – Bigsound, Music Writers’ Lab – Womadelaide and Wikimedia – The Australian Music Project.
“Through these new $3,000 travel grants, we hope to continue to support some of Australia’s best and brightest writers to further their careers and – in turn – foster the creation of new and important content about Australia for the global stage.”
If successful, writers must complete their travel this year and cover all other necessary costs, including insurance, and visas.
The deadline for submissions is Monday, April 17th. Successful recipients will be notified as soon as possible after the assessment period. Applicants must be over 18-years-old at the time of submission and have a valid passport. No more than one recipient per organisation will also be considered.
