Australian Music Industry Launches ‘Vote Music 2025’ Campaign

Nineteen music organisations across the country have come together to launch ‘Vote Music 2025’, a national campaign asking all political parties to back a stronger future for Australian music.
The campaign outlines five key goals to support more jobs, stronger communities, and help local music reach more people both at home and overseas.
The upcoming federal election, the campaign says, is a big moment. It follows recent government support through programs like ‘Live Music Australia’, ‘Revive Live’, and ‘Music Australia’, which have helped the industry through tough times. But more work is needed to protect and grow the local scene.
“Australian music is part of who we are as a nation,” said Dean Ormston, APRA AMCOS Chief Executive. “It connects us, it tells our stories, and it supports thousands of jobs across every community. Right now, our artists and songwriters are making their mark on the global stage, but they need strong foundations at home to keep creating and building sustainable careers.”
The campaign says people are hearing less Australian music across radio and streaming, and live music venues are still doing it tough. Without better support, there’s a risk that the next generation of Aussie artists – and the thousands of jobs that depend on them – could be lost.
“The Australian music industry continues to persevere through truly difficult cultural and global changes — affecting every part of our industry,” said Jess Keeley, Chair of the Association of Artist Managers. “We strive to stabilise the opportunities presented to our musicians and performing artists on a global scale, knowing our industry has the experience and creative energy to compete and thrive internationally and at home.”
Damian Rinaldi, CEO of the Australasian Music Publishers Association (AMPAL), said: “The future of Australian music depends on the stories we protect, invest in and share with the world. Music publishers are at the heart of that mission -amplifying local voices, creating careers and exporting Australian creativity globally. Vote Music 2025 showcases an industry united in its vision, ensuring the newly elected government can be guided by this thoughtful blueprint, which supports everyone in the music industry in a harmonised, yet pragmatic way.”
With the global music business expected to grow to more than US$160 billion by 2030, the report says Australia has a chance to become a major music exporter — creating jobs and boosting our place on the world stage.
“We imagine a future where Australian music fills our airwaves, our pubs and venues, our festivals, our classrooms and our global stages,” the statement reads.
‘Vote Music 2025’ is calling for:
More support for live music, venues, and music education
Stronger rights for artists, and protections around AI and copyright
Better promotion of Australian music on radio, streaming and screen
Support for community programs, mental health services and safe workplaces
Help for Aussie artists to tour overseas and grow global audiences
