Aussie filmmaker Daniel Askill has directed music videos for Sia, Phoenix and These New Puritans, and now he can add Lady Gaga to his CV.

Known for his work in sculpture, short films, and commercials, the acclaimed director won an ARIA Award in 2014 for Best Video following his work on the clip for Sia’s ‘Chandelier’.

Askill is credited as director on the recently-released music video for Lady Gaga’s new single ‘Stupid Love’, with editing by his brother Lorin Askill and cinematography by Sebastian Winterø (who also worked on ‘Chandelier’).

The filmmaker shot the entire video clip on iPhone 11 Pro, Apple has confirmed to PCMag, with the Filmic Pro app used to capture every scene before editors got their hands on the footage.

However, Lady Gaga’s creative team also reportedly used “additional hardware” including lighting equipment and stabilisers.

“Thanks for having me in the Haus,” said Askill in an Instagram post. “What a magic ride.”

Lady Gaga is also one of the best-performing acts at Australian radio, with three #1s on the TMN Hot 100 Airplay Chart including 2018’s ‘Shallow’ with Bradley Cooper.

‘Stupid Love’ is on track for a high debut at radio this week, with the Nova Network, KIIS Melbourne, and Hit Newcastle all spinning the tune 20+ times since its release last Friday.

There are high spin counts on Fox FM (15) and KIIS Sydney (19) too, and a Top 10 debut could well be on the cards.

Gaga has since announced that ‘Stupid Love’ is the first single from forthcoming sixth studio album Chromatica (April 10).

She has three ARIA chart-toppers in Australia, with 2008’s The Fame, 2011’s Born This Way and the soundtrack to 2018’s A Star Is Born all going #1.
